Data from the Outreach Insights Group, based on 148 internal Outreach sessions, April–May 2026. Quota attainment findings are directional and based on an internal cohort of New Logo AEs. Not a cross-industry benchmark.
TL;DR: Outreach's Insights Group tracked 517 rep actions taken immediately after account plan sessions across 148 internal sales sessions. Composing an email was the top follow-through action, at roughly 25% of all activity, and AI shows up across five distinct features in that follow-through — from AI-drafted emails to suggested next steps. Reps who revisit account plans 26+ times a month hit 159% of quota, versus 90% for reps who rarely open them.
Most conversations about account planning focus on what goes into the plan. The sections, the fields, the templates, the completeness score. In this blog post, we’ll take one step forward and talk about what comes out.
When the Outreach Insights Group analyzed 148 internal sales sessions between April and May 2026 in our recent Account Plan Analysis, we tracked not just how reps used account plans — but what they did immediately after. The result was 517 downstream actions across two months, spanning email, sequences, calls, meetings, task flows, and CRM updates.
Across both months, reps took an average of roughly 8–9 distinct execution steps per day triggered directly from account plan sessions. Here's the full breakdown:

The five loops are just one part of the story. The full report covers how reps enter account plans, which sections get the most attention, what happens after every session, AI adoption in practice, and how account plan usage connects directly to quota attainment.
In about 10–15% of sessions, reps didn't leave after reading — they updated. The most commonly edited fields:
For active deals, account plans are a live working document, and the reps updating them in real time are the same ones moving deals forward.
One of the most significant findings from the session data is where AI shows up in the workflow. Across 5 distinct AI features, power users have woven AI directly into their follow-through:
We gleaned that AI is making follow-through more intentional and faster. It’s giving reps concreate actions to take after leaving the account plan.
When we looked at New Logo AE quota attainment bucketed by account plan usage frequency, the pattern was unambiguous:

Reps interacting with account plans 26 or more times per month hit 159% quota attainment. Reps at 1–5 interactions hit 90%. A 76 percentage point spread, linear across every tier.
Take it from the best reps: they’re following through more consistently with more emails, sequences, calls, CRM updates that are all being triggered from the same source. The account plan is their operating rhythm, and the 517 downstream actions are what that rhythm produces.
If you want to understand whether your team is getting value from account planning, stop looking at plan completeness. Start looking at what happens after reps open a plan.
A few questions worth asking:
The follow-through is where account planning delivers ROI. It's worth spending some time ensuring your account plan workflows are set up for success and driving real revenue to your org.
Composing an email, which accounted for roughly 25% of the 517 downstream actions tracked — nearly double the next most common action.
Across five features: an AI email composer triggered from Kaia recordings, a Suggested Actions widget, a Key Insights synthesis panel, Suggested Updates for opportunity fields, and Kaia transcript-to-snippet conversion.
Directionally, yes, within this internal New Logo AE cohort — reps who interacted with account plans most frequently also showed the highest quota attainment.
